Here's a little secret for you: I was born and raised in Fargo. That's right, the one from the movie. While it was a great place to grow up, I think maybe it is also why I developed...um...let's call it an exaggerated idea of what it meant to get dolled up for a big night out (and no, that is not me on the left, although it probably could have been). The Fargo trifecta of beauty was, quite simply put: Big Hair, Big Makeup, and a Big Fake Tan.
Thankfully, I have come to appreciate the "less is more" approach to looking beautiful. Since launching The Nature of Beauty, I have also had the amazing good fortune to learn from uber-talented makeup artists like Jessa Blades, Christy Coleman, Kristen Arnett, and The Nature of Beauty's own Nina Strommen.
Rather than keep this knowledge all to myself, I thought perhaps on this, the Week of Big Dates, I would share some of my favorite tips with you (and yes, they are great tips even if you don't have any big plans for Valentine's Day).
1. Less is more. I know you may find this hard to believe, but believe me when I tell you - the more makeup you apply, and the longer you spend on your hair, the more you'll just end up looking like someone who spent too much time on her hair and makeup. Simple = Sexy. I promise. Thick black liner, fun bright colors of eye shadow, red glossy lips - I recommend picking just one, or you run the risk of looking like a lady of the night.

2. Focus on what you love. You are beautiful, and you know it - even if you're reluctant to admit it sometimes. So rather than fret over the stuff you don't like, focus your energy on decorating your favorite features and you'll feel like a supermodel all night long. Got big beautiful peepers? Apply some extra liner on the upper lid and a deep, rich shadow (see the lovely Miss Adele, left). Blessed with Angelina lips? Try a new, saucy shade of red lipstick. If you happen to think every feature on your face is awesome, refer back to Tip #1.

4. Minimalist hair is always a good thing. If you are not from Fargo, you may know this already, but nothing says overkill like big hair. Unless you're attending the Oscars (and, let's be honest, even if you are), your best bet is a simple up-do, or sleek and straight. Can't stay away from your curling iron? Limit yourself to a few loose tendrils (like the always lovely Ms. Hathaway here). As a general rule of thumb, the only women who should sport a full head of curls are those born with a full head of curls.
3. Luminizer, lip gloss, and brow pencil are your best friends.Going straight from work to dinner? There is no easier way to transform Day Look into Date Ready than luminizer on the inner corners of your eyes, clear gloss on the lips, and a well-groomed brow. My favorites include rms beauty living luminizer (something I firmly believe every woman should own); Zuzu Luxe lip gloss in Crystal or, for high-glam gloss, Jane Iredale PureGloss in Just Gloss; and Logona Brow Pencil.

5. Consult a Nature of Beauty makeup artist. Everyone needs a new perspective from time to time, and our artists can introduce you to new ideas, new shades, and new techniques. Don't live in the Twin Cities? No worries - we have makeup artists all over the country happy to help, so shoot us an email at info@natureofbeauty.com to see if there's a Nature of Beauty makeup artist near you.

Nothing can beat a long sleep before your big day. Aside from it makes your skin glow, enough sleep can make you feel beautiful and happy. There are some people though who doesn't enjoy sleep as much as others do. They suffer from different sleeping disorders such as insomnia and hypopnea. A sleep expert can help you out with this.
