Time to Winterize your Beauty Routine

Whether you're bracing yourself for dry, frigid winter, or transitioning from hot and sweaty to mild and damp, your skin's need are about to change. For most of us, the foundation (or lack thereof) you used in July isn't going to cut it in January, and the night lotion (or lack thereof) you applied before bed in the dog days of summer won't feel adequate as the dew point plummets. So here are a few of my favorite cold-weather favorites from The Nature of Beauty:

Caramel Liquid Foundation: Super-soft and light in texture, yet pleasantly moisturizing, this foundation is perfect for women who don't need an abundance of creaminess or coverage. It provides a semi-matte finish without drying the skin, and has nourishing ingredients like organic jojoba oil to protect the skin.

Logona Age Protection Foundation: This is a top choice for my 35+ customers. It provides intense moisture without feeling heavy, gives great coverage, and includes anti aging ingredients to combat environmental irritants and toxins.

Organoderm Night Cream: Every winter, to spots underneath my lower lip that become horrifyingly dry and flakey. I call it my "winter beard." And yes, it's as attractive as it sounds. Since I began using this night cream, however, the beard stays away all last winter. Organoderm's Night Cream is extremely rich and definitely for skin that needs intense moisture.

Dr. Alkaitis Skin Care Trio: It's hard to find a skin care trio as nourishing and healing, let along one that is all organic, as Dr. Alkaitis' Day, Night, and Eye Cremes. Your skin will love you for investing in this top of the line moisture-packed system.

Rare El'ements El'Serum. The hair takes a serious beating in the winter (if you're a big summer swimmer, your hair needs extra TLC then, too). Up here in Minnesota, with our legendary cold snaps, winter beats my hair up something fierce. I won't be going more than a week without using this miracle potion on my mop.

Revolution Organics Body Balm: To tackle those dry patches before putting on your makeup, apply a bit of this super-soother to heal the skin AND assist the makeup application process at the same time.

Finally, no product will be worth much if you're not taking care of the rest of you as well. If your winters are dry, consider running a humidifier in your room at night. Cut back on caffeine and alcohol - both dehydrate the skin - increase your intake of water, fresh fruits and vegetables (think soup!), and avoid using the hottest setting on your hair dryer.
